Ancient Olympics

The Olympics began over two and a half thousand years ago in ancient Greece. In those days Greece was made up of several different states including Athens, Sparta and Corinth and they were often at war with each other, but when the games were on they held a truce. This great event was held at a place called Olympia and this is why the games are called the Olympics.

They were held once every four years in honour of Zeus, lord of all the gods. Eventually the Ancient Olympics were abolished by the roman Emperor Theodosius the first, who was a christian and did not like the games because they were dedicated to a pagan god, but the Olympics were always remembered as a symbol of achievement and peace.

Te Tuhi

First thing in the morning the pavilion kids got split into two groups. We were off on an adventure to Te Tuhi an art gallery in Pakuranga. Carefully we got off the bus in two lines. When we got to Te Tuhi we sat on the floor there was a man called Jeremy he came to talk to us about the art gallery. After he talked to us we were all filled with excitement.

We all followed Jeremy to a workshop where people had made art. When we got to the workshop we followed simple steps to make our dream house. First we had to pick ten shapes and plan our dream house, we rotated our shapes into different angles, but they had to tessellate. The next step was gluing, then drawing around our shapes with vivid then the last step to do, we had to draw furniture inside our house with pencil.

My Artwork

Creating my artwork I felt proud because I have been working on it for weeks. I have been managing my work and I have been trying my best to make my artwork look amazing.

The best part of painting was using the neon colours and planning  my art.  I mostly loved vividering and painting dots with white paint.

What I found hard was that I had too much little white spaces in my artwork that I had to be so careful of painting. What I didn't like was that people kept on distracting me that I could not do my work.

What I can do better next time is that I can make my shapes not that small so I can paint through them nicely. I can also take my time and not rush.

The most interesting thing that my friend Eden did is that when she had little patterns she just found a way to make it look great. The most interesting thing that I did is that when I did vividering it made my art stand out.

What I learnt most about my painting is not to put too much paint onto your bush and not too put little detail onto your paper. I also learnt how to draw lightly.

Fia Fia Costume

My costume: My costume was a pretty and bright kind of costume. For my costume I had a white t-shirt with a blue lavalava. My hair looked so pretty because in my hair I had a purple flower with little flowers sticking out.

Being an audience: Sitting on the cold hard ground I can hear the thumping music. Eagerly waiting I couldn't fall asleep.   Sitting in the dark I was supporting my friends and whanau.

Chances tesselation

Today we learnt about tesselation.

Tamarereti

The people of the land were in danger because of a Taniwha that had lived in a lake. The land had no light so at night the Taniwha would come and eat anyone for a meal if they were near there home. People were terrified of going out at night.

During that time there was a warrior named Tamarereti, one morning Tamarereti woke up and his stomach was rumbling so he checked his kepu but it was empty so Tamarereti decided to go fishing on lake taupo in hope to catch some fish.

After fishing for a while Tamarereti had caught 3 large fish he was really happy until he realised that the wind had gone. It was mid morning and Tamarereti felt tired he thought that he would have plenty of time for the wind to come back so he took a little nap in his waka. After many hours later Tamarereti and his waka had washed onto shore so while he was sleeping the wind had picked up already, Tamarereti knew that he was in big trouble, his belly was still rumbling  so Tamarereti cooked some fish for him to eat. Since it was night Tamarereti knew the Taniwha would eat him. While Tamarereti was eating his kai he saw glistening pebbles glowing in the dark. This gave Tamarereti an idea,he gathered as many pebbles as he could and put them into his waka and threw them into the sky where they hung sparkling and shining, the lights had kept the taniwha away and made it safely back home. After a long day tamarereti fell straight asleep until noon. When he woke Tamarereti had a visitor waiting for him it was Ranginui god of the sky, Tamarereti was so scared of what he had done he had taken Ranginui’s black dark sky and filled it with lights. Tamarereti was sure to get punished but instead ranginui said ‘’Tena ko Tamarereti you have made the land safe and the sky more beautiful i would like to honor your change and cast your waka into the heavens so people will remember what you have done.Tamarereti was relieved and happy.

My Dream Bedroom

My Geometry Garden

In my garden my flowers have Rotational Symmetry.
This means that when I rotate my flowers they will have an order 4 and look the same.

In my garden my butterfly has Reflective Symmetry.

This means that my butterfly reflects on both sides and looks the same.

In my garden my pathway shows tessellation
To make my pathway I translated a shape to make it look the same and have no gaps.
This means that each shape can repeat to make a pattern. Also this means that when you tessellate the shape it has to have no gaps.
